Huggins Counselling (Allie Huggins, MA, RCC #16839) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how personal information is collected, used, stored and disclosed, in keeping with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors’ Code of Ethical Conduct and Standards of Clinical Practice.

What information is collected

  • Contact details you provide (name, email, phone number, address)
  • Information needed to book and pay for sessions
  • Clinical information shared during counselling, recorded in confidential session notes
  • Basic website usage data (for example, pages visited), collected through standard website tools

How it is used

Your information is used only to provide counselling services, schedule appointments, process payments, issue receipts, communicate with you, and meet professional and legal obligations. It is never sold or used for marketing without your consent.

Confidentiality and its limits

What you share in counselling is confidential. Information is disclosed without your consent only where required or permitted by law, including: a risk of serious harm to you or others; suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult; or a court order or subpoena. Wherever possible, these limits are discussed with you first.

Online sessions and booking

Appointments, intake forms, records and online sessions are managed through Jane (janeapp.com), a Canadian practice-management platform with encrypted video and secure data storage. Before online sessions begin, you will be asked to consent to the use of these tools and informed of the risks of virtual counselling. Please join sessions from a private space.

Email, phone and text

Email and text messages are not fully secure. Please use them only for scheduling and general questions, and avoid sharing private health information by email or through this website.

Storage and retention

Records are stored securely and kept for the period required by BCACC standards and applicable law, then destroyed securely.

Your rights

You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information held about you, and you may withdraw consent for certain uses, subject to legal and professional requirements. To make a request or ask a question, contact info@hugginscounselling.com.
